Indian Almond

The picture was taken from the balcony of my apartment.  You see the badam tree both on the right and left side of the picture.  Earlier in the week, the tree on the left had the striking red leaves too, and as I took in the sight, a light gust of breeze had 20 of the leaves fluttering down to the ground. It was indeed a beautiful sight.  The tree has pale green fruit that turns purplish red.  As kids we would eat the fleshy red fruit too.  It had a tangy, sweet taste.  And then break the hard shell that was left to recover the almond seed inside.

Botanical name: Terminalia catappa    Family: Combretaceae (Rangoon creeper family)
